The Canadian Rockies are the hardest kind of trip to post about: everyone comes home with the same photos. Turquoise lake, grey peak, turquoise lake again. What nobody's camera roll shows is the shape of the thing -- that you climbed 1,500 metres out of the prairie, ran 230 km of one road past a glacier, and ended up somewhere with no light pollution. That's a map's job.

About this guide and its evidence

Published by RouteFlick, the maker of the product described here. This is first-party guidance, not an independent review.

Route previews are actual exports. An example route illustrates a workflow; it does not prove every feature or a competitor's output. Export speed depends on your device.

Creator workflow and comparison documentation reviewed October 5, 2026. Named vendor sources support the documented facts; this is not a purchased-plan test or an export-speed benchmark. Unknown specifications are marked as not verified. Confirm current terms before buying.

## The route

- The spine: Calgary -> Banff -> Lake Louise -> Field -> Columbia Icefield -> Jasper. Six stops, a week, and it's the trip almost everyone actually does.
- The loop back: return Jasper -> Calgary via Highway 93 south or the Yellowhead and Kamloops -- worth animating, because a closed loop replays seamlessly.
- The rail cut: set the legs to rail if you rode the Rocky Mountaineer. They follow a real rail network, which runs a different line from the highway -- and that difference is visible on the map.

Keep the drive legs on road. The Icefields Parkway is the single most scenic stretch of the trip, and real road routing is the only thing that puts the line where you actually were; a straight Lake Louise-to-Jasper hop draws through the mountains instead of along them.

## The mountain look

- Terrain high (Pro) -- non-negotiable here. Flat, this route is a line across green; with relief it's a climb through the front ranges.
- Satellite on the free plan renders the glacial lakes close to their real colour, which is the one thing people won't believe.
- Atlas or Winter (Pro) for a ski or shoulder-season trip; Vivid if it's going straight to Reels.
- Route colour: glacier blue or white. Warm colours fight the palette of the entire region.
- Vehicle: car, or the camper variant (Pro) -- a lot of these trips are camper trips.

## Settings to copy

1. Kilometres on. The Parkway number does the talking, and it's the stat nobody guesses right.
2. Speed 1x -- six stops over a week doesn't need rushing, and the whole route lands around 22 seconds.
3. Slow the Lake Louise -> Jasper leg if your speed control allows it: that one leg is a third of the trip and deserves the screen time.
4. Cinematic camera with start and end zoom on; Horizon (Pro) is the alternate worth exporting, because a low camera angle is what makes mountains read as tall.

## The stop most people leave out

Jasper is a Dark Sky Preserve, and if you have a night shot it belongs at the end of the video -- the route climbs away from Calgary's light and finishes under stars. Ending on the astro photo instead of another lake is the single easiest way to make your version not look like everyone else's.

💡 Only did Banff and Lake Louise? The three-stop version still works -- Calgary in, the two parks, and the elevation gain out of the prairie is visible even on a short route.
