Iceland's Route 1 is the rare road trip that's genuinely a loop -- which makes it the perfect map video: the route leaves Reykjavik, circles the entire island, and closes on itself like a signature. Here's how to make the version that does the trip justice.

About this guide and its evidence

Published by RouteFlick, the maker of the product described here. This is first-party guidance, not an independent review.

Route previews are actual exports. An example route illustrates a workflow; it does not prove every feature or a competitor's output. Export speed depends on your device.

Creator workflow and comparison documentation reviewed October 5, 2026. Named vendor sources support the documented facts; this is not a purchased-plan test or an export-speed benchmark. Unknown specifications are marked as not verified. Confirm current terms before buying.

## The route (and the direction debate)

Most drivers go counter-clockwise -- south coast first (Vík, the glacier lagoon), then the east fjords, north to Akureyri, and home. Clockwise saves the south-coast hits for last. Either way, the classic stops are Reykjavik, Vík, Jökulsárlón, Egilsstaðir, Akureyri and back -- with Snæfellsnes as the bonus peninsula if you had the extra days.

## The Iceland look

- Winter map style for the February aurora trip; Vivid for green-season midnight sun.
- Terrain matters more here than anywhere: raise the slider and the fjords and ice caps rise under the road.
- Vehicle: the camper -- it's a campervan island. A 4x4-style car works for the winter trip.
- Route colour: ice blue on Winter, or safety-vest orange for the classic rental-camper joke.

## Photos that make the video

1. Vík: the black sand and the church on the hill.
2. Jökulsárlón: icebergs -- the photo that carries any Iceland recap.
3. The east fjords: one empty-road shot; it explains the trip better than any caption.
4. Akureyri or Mývatn: the northern payoff before the run home.

💡 Keep the final leg's arrival back in Reykjavik on screen a beat longer (give that stop a couple of extra seconds) -- watching the loop close is the emotional beat of the whole video.

Export widescreen for YouTube -- Iceland footage audiences skew to the big screen -- and a vertical cut for the Reel. Free covers the whole loop in HD.
